What 2017 Taught Me

What 2017 Taught Me

Happy New Year!!

The champagne, the dancing and the glitter are just a few of my fav fav fav things that come with those three little words.

In all honesty, this past year was a rough one for me. It was a year full of some major changes and some really scary life changing decisions. To say the least, I really embraced adulthood and it was S C A R Y!!!

However terrifying it was, I think 2017 was for sure one for the books as it taught me some really important life lessons and obvs it would be rude not to share!

1. Don’t sweat the small stuff

It might seem important in the moment but truth is … you probably won’t care much in a year, maybe even six months. Don’t waste time on petty drama or small people, you’re better than that and there are bigger issues in the world (Throw back to Kim K losing her earring in the ocean lols)
Don’t ever forget how great you are.

2. Change is almost always a GOOD thing

Often, change includes saying goodbye to things, at least it did for me this year. It might be sad or scary at first but getting rid of one thing only leaves room for newer, more exciting things in the future! With the risk of sounding cliche, when one door closes, another one opens.

3. Stop and smell the roses

This was a rough one for me to come to terms with. Whether you’re ready or not, life has a way of moving on – too quickly if you ask me but we’re all about rising above today!! You have to enjoy what you have while you have it. In the words of Meredith Grey, you never know the last time is the last time. Most of the time, the most major changes in our lives we never see coming. It’s so important to take the time needed to take in how lucky we are and really appreciate what we have. Take the extra minute to slow down and tell your loved ones how grateful you are to have them …. seriously though, go kiss your mamas !!!

4. Parents, however amazing, are only human

I feel like when we’re little we view our parents as absolute superhero’s and I mean, why wouldn’t we? They’re quite literally able to fix ALL of our problems. I think what some of us may struggle to realize is that even though we love the shit out of them and we look up to them, they’re only human!! They make mistakes too, and that’s sooo okay! I think maybe they even learn from us sometimes.

5. Forgiveness is so important

Take a deep breath, tell yourself “Girl … you’re better than this!!” and choose to forgive. It truly is SO relieving. You might not know it yet, but it’s way more work to be angry than to forgive.

6. People change and life goes on (and that’s okay!)

Friendships fall apart sometimes and sometimes it’s completely out of your control. Sometimes It’s okay to let people go.

7. It’s okay to ask for help

You could literally be superman strong and I would still tell you the same thing. Everybody needs some help sometimes. You don’t have to bear the burden of the world on your own all the time. It’s difficult to let people in sometimes, but asking for help can be seriously beneficial! Nobody will think less of you.

You’re all beautiful, and I wish you all a very Happy (and a tad bit late) New Year
