Hey babes, and a very happy new year to you all! Well, we’re 10 days into 2019 so you know what that means …. about 90% of us have already broken our new years resolutions LOL … are you one of them?!
All joking aside, what is it about the new year that makes people think that they can set unrealistically high expectations for themselves and then feel like crap about it when they’re unable to meet them? It’s for this reason that I tend to think of new years resolutions as having a big flashy CAUTION sign over it. The thing is, there’s a difference between dreaming and setting goals for yourself and if you’re looking to set and stick to a new years resolution, you’ve got to think of it more as a goal instead of a dream. I mean yeah, I would L.O.V.E LOVE to wake up tomorrow and be able to spend two hours at the gym, have rock hard abs by April and a perfect model bod by June. Let’s be real here though friends, my evenings currently involve myself curled up on the sofa with my doggo, maybe a brownie or two and a fat glass of wine. I am NOT going to become an athletic legend over night!
The point is babes, you’ve got to set realistic goals for yourself – set yourself up for SUCCESS!!! The dream is to be fit and thin and athletic, but maybe the goal for this year is to just get into the habit of getting to the gym ONCE a week, and then twice and then maybe even four days etc etc.
My new years resolution, if you want to call it that, doesn’t include anything crazy. I don’t want to lose weight, I don’t want to be stronger or more beautiful – in fact, I don’t want to change myself at all … I simply want to learn to accept myself just the way I am. This doesn’t mean I want to settle and never strive for self improvement, I happen to think self-growth is extremely important. I do however, need to learn how to be comfortable in my own skin and i’m willing to bet i’m not alone!
Here’s the thing, you are UNIQUE, you are PERFECT, you are YOU. There is not, and will not ever be another you in this whole wide world and I happen to think that’s pretty damn cool. You’re it babe. Why aim to be something “more” or something “better” when you’re perfect exactly the way you are? Life is far too short for comparisons, and far too short for self-hatred. There is so much out there to experience, and I would hate for myself or for you to wake up one day and realize we wasted all our time concerned with how to change ourselves instead of loving and living! You are worth all the happiness in the world. We are BEAUTIFUL and it’s about damn time we start believing it.
Whether you’re on a self-love journey like myself, or you’re out there trying to keep your other goals for 2019, remember to take baby steps and to be gentle with yourself. We’re only human after all.
